One of the main goals of the Galicaster project is to provide end-to-end solutions. Therefore, as part of the developing process, the selection and adaptability of suitable hardware to fulfill the needs of diferent scenarios is taken into account.

Depending on the hardware installed we have two different levels of requirements. If we use a HD webcam we will need Intel i5 or higher processor. In case we use a TV signal capturer, then our needs lower to a Dual Core processor.

In the case of an I5 processor, we may use this powerful computer to fullfill other needs in our system, using the unit as a part-time worker - even full-time. We will take a look into it a little further

h5. Capturer-worker unit

On those capturers equiped with a HD webcam we have to encode the video stream by Software, that's why we need a powerfull machine. It's easy to realize that a capturer won't be working more than 12 hours, so we have an computer iddle for half a day. In this period we can use the capturer as a part-time worker ( full-time if we have a i7 processor).

This matter gets crutial when we increase the number of rooms and, subsequently, the amount of hours of recordings. So, the scalability of the whole production system becomes a major concern. A network of capturer-workers guarantees a balanced scalabality between hours of recordings and processing capabilities.

h4. Scenarios

So far we are working on four main scenarios and their equipments: a totem alike installation, a fix installation, an access grid facility and a video-conferece. The hardware installed on the latest two scenarios can be used as part of the Galicaster system, thus saving resources.

We will take a look into each installation separetally:

h5. Wheeled Totem

{column:width:72%}
The totem it's the first prototype developed and it's already operating. It's equiped with a tactile screen, a HD webcam, a wireless microphone and a VGA capturer all in a wheeled platform, so it can be moved at will or transported to other classroom if necessary.It has a Galicaster Class installed and it can be used automatically or or manually.

The totem it's specially usefull in temporal installations, in close-range recordings and in small or medium sized rooms.

h5. Fixed installation

When a totem won't fit in a class full of people or when we want a more adapted solution a fixed installation is required.

On a basic scenario we should place:
* A control screen within reach of the lecturer - maybe on a desk.
* VGA and audio conection for the laptop
* The microphone base
* A cameraAs for the camera position we could face many obstacules such as the lecturer movement or the audience situation.  We have to considered some options where to place the camera:\* On a lateral of the room, so we have a open shot covering all the posible positions of the lecturer
* On the first line or before the first line of the audience, so we get the audience perspective, then a more natural view of the lecturer. Obviusly this solution requires a protection against manipulation and vibrations.
* On the middle of the audience or just after.
* Using the projector platform, this solution is handy but provides an unnatural perspective
h5. Access Grid

On a Access Grid facility we have chosen a fix unit equiped with both TV signal and a VGA capturers and the audio it's taken directly via the PC sound card. This unit it's managed by operatora and has a pre-release version of Galicaster Mobile.

h5. Video Conference Room

Working along with a Polycom Video Conference installation, we only need a capturing unit with an aditional local camera
